BRYAN ADAMS ON AUSTRALIAN TV
Here's an interview from australian TV with Bryan Adams in Sydney, March 2000.
TV Host: Since he quit school at 16 to pursue music,
he has produced a string of international hits. Naomi
Robson reports on the life of Bryan.
(Plays about 5 seconds of the Run To You video clip)
BA: The reason I'm still around today is probably
because of my songs and my voice and um...I guess it's
been, it's been good. I have a knack for writing a
little catchy number once in awhile. (Smiles)
(Plays about 10 seconds of Everything I Do video clip)
BA: That song wrote itself in an hour, literally,
(clicks his fingers) done! All of my songs, my best
songs are written very quickly.
Naomi: Now you're 40 and you've never married. Is
there any reason for that?
BA: Probing question! (Said laughingly)
Naomi: I know you've had a number of long term
relationships...
BA: I'm not really a big believer in marriage. Um...I
don't know. (Takes a moment to consider the
question). I suppose if...maybe one day I might, you
know, but not right now anyway.
(Plays about 10 seconds of All For Love video clip)
Naomi: You love to collaborate with others in your
music, don't you? You've sung with some of the best:
Smokey Robinson, Barbra Streisand and Tina Turner. I
believe you even managed to smuggle yourself backstage
to actually get a song to her when you were 22 years
old?
BA: Oh, that was a long, long time ago, but that was
um, because I was a big fan of hers...she was still
playing clubs back then.
(Plays about 15 seconds of When You're Gone video
clip)
Naomi: And then, of course there was the duet with
Mel C, Sporty Spice?
BA: Right.
Naomi: I believe you really enjoyed working with her?
BA: Well, I mean it was just very natural and um, she
was just getting her own life, doing her own thing so,
um, it was a good time and it was simple. It was the
last song I was recording for my record so it worked
out perfectly. I hadn't mixed it yet.
Naomi: Are you romantic?
BA: No, not right now...but maybe later! (Both Naomi
and Bryan laugh hysterically at this comment)
Naomi: Would you describe yourself as a romantic
person?
BA: (He considers this question seriously and
responds slowly) Um, I don't know...not particularly,
no.
Naomi: Because I wonder how you write those lyrics
because a lot of your lyrics are so passionate and
intimate and very open...
BA: Well, I'm a writer.
Naomi: Yeah?
BA: So, I'm able to, you know, get into that
headspace.
Naomi: But where did it come from?
BA: I don't know, just um...too much idle time
probably! (Both laugh)
Naomi: Have you ever indulged in the vagueries of pop
stardom?
BA: Oh, of course, yeah, everybody does. (Smiles)
Naomi: What did you get up to?
BA: Um, well, I mean I've been doing this a long time
so there probably isn't anything I haven't tried out
at least once or twice.
